Part 2 of Our Swiss Adventure - Traveling to St. Moritz

Our tour began on a Monday at the Zurich train station where we boarded a first class train to St. Moritz.

The scenery that we passed was spectacular, however very challenging to photograph since we dealt with windows and speed.  The group of us, 15 photographers including spouses, ran from window to window, enjoying the charming European landscape.  Someone located a half raised window and someone else found a car that seemed to be meant for photographers since you could manage the windows more easily, but we still had the speed of the train to contend with, not to mention constant posts we passed and, although things looked beautiful to our eyes, there remained a lot of power lines that were disappointing to see on our images.  And one of our group lost her cell phone as the train sped by.

We were excited to see the many clocktowers and church steeples and every now and then the strain stopped for a minute or two and we were able to grab a nice shot. Looking back at my pictures, even though they are not all perfect, they still bring me back to that day and the excitement of seeing the Swiss countryside with its many waterfalls and bridges and churches. It all looked so very different than the landscape we were used to in the United States.

At long last we arrived at our destination, St. Moritz, another charming city but with a different personality than Zurich.

It was smaller, for one thing and seemed so close to the mountains that surrounded it.

We were lucky to be staying in a cool, artsy hotel that had a sweet balcony with great views, a cute little bird that greeted us and a close up view of the clock tower.

We wandered around the town taking some pictures and then met up with our group for fondue and pizza.  One of our gang got a calzone and it was the biggest calzone I have ever seen!  The food was good, the company was great and we were all happy to get to know each other better and enjoy a nice meal.  Afterwards, I set my tripod up on our little balcony and took this photo when the light was quite low.  All in all, a great first day.
